Kaneda’s Bike from #Akira comes to Life in Japan! @geeksngoddesses
If you have $121,000 dollars and a big fan of Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira, then you must be Japanese resident Masashi Teshima. Teshima spent 7 years and ¥10 million to build his dream bike.
According to Kotaku, “While there are other Kaneda bike projects, this one is officially recognized by Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo. And Teshima is riding the bike across the country to raise money for children’s autism.”
“The last stop is Tokyo, where it will be displayed at an exhibition for Katsuhiro Otomo. Visitors to the exhibit can sit on the bike and have their photos taken with it. The exhibit is for a good cause, too: it’s raising money for victims of last year’s earthquake.”
Truly an amazing fan labor of love!

Amazing Space Battleship #Yamato2199 Trailer - Geeks & Goddesses #starblazers @geeksngoddesses @new_yamato_2199
According to Toysrevil:
SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO: 2199 is a 26-episode half-hour series, a remake of the classic 1974 production, and the movie in theaters is titled “SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO: 2199 - CHAPTER 1: THE LONG VOYAGE”, directed by Yutaka Izubuchi. From the over 3+minutes trailer above (in Japanese / unsubbed), we see a decidedly “advanced” animation leaning towards a more realistic depiction, versus the earlier stylized caricatures of the era (AKA less sharper noses ;p).
2199 will be released in theaters in Japan on April 7 and DVD and BD of Volume 1 will be made available on May 25th.
